National Labor Relations Board nominees at crux of Senate fight
Senate Republicans and Democrats struck a compromise Tuesday breaking the partisan gridlock surrounding President Obama?s appointments to the NLRB. In the deal, Republicans agreed not to block confirmation of a new pair of appointments to the Board in exchange for a pledge from Democrats not to change Senate rules by a majority vote. After consultation with the head of the AFL-CIO, President Obama will nominate Nancy Schiffer, associate general of the AFL-CIO and Kent Kirozawa, chief counsel to another NLRB chairman. The compromise has ensured that the NLRB will have a functioning team through 2014.
