Nestle Confirms Labor Abuse Among Its Thai Seafood Suppliers
On Monday, the Swiss food and beverage company Nestle SA released its finding from a yearlong investigation the company had conducted into the welfare of workers in Thailand's fishing industry. Nestle's report contained similar content to report that was released by the Associated Press earlier this year. These fishermen in Thailand are charged a fee to gain employment on a fishing vessel. The workers are never able to earn enough money to pay back these fees. Some workers have been trying to pay back their debt for over 10 years. Nestle will be outlining a new strategy for 2016 that will put more emphasis on the welfare of workers.
