New agreement between the city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Protective League union will increase officer pay and benefits
The Los Angeles Police Protective League union and the city of Los Angeles have reached an agreement that will raise starting pay for LA police officers, and increase retention pay and health insurance benefits. If the contract is approved by union members and the City Council, the starting pay for new officers will increase by 11%, and base pay will grow by 3% annually over the next four years. Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass, states that the agreement will hopefully raise retention rates, and increase recruitment and hiring efforts. The Los Angeles Police Force has experienced decreasing numbers over the past four years, and around 1,000 officers have left their positions.
