New Florida immigration law may hurt various industries that depend on undocumented workers
Florida’s new immigration law, SB1718, went into effect on July 1st. This law focuses on the transportation of undocumented immigrants and the employment of undocumented immigrants. Individuals that transport undocumented immigrants across state lines can face felony charges, negatively affecting undocumented immigrants who travel between states when they work on different sites. Unemployed immigrants who use falsified or invalid documents to work will now face criminal charges, and employees are now required to use E-Verify to verify that workers have work authorization. Many undocumented immigrants are afraid of going to work in fear of facing charges or getting deported, and this is negatively impacting various industries that depend on the undocumented immigrant workforce.
