New Jersey Governor Christie Sued by Unions Over Pension, Health Cuts
New Jersey unions are suing the Governor and other state officials in an effort to block a law that reduces pension and health benefits. The suit alleges that by suspending pension adjustments, increasing contributions and underfunding pensions the state is depriving workers of their right to due process. The Governor signed the bill into law in June as part of an effort to cut costs and reduce deficits in the pension system. the law also raises the retirement age and freezes cost-of-living adjustments.
