New Jersey High Court Hands Wal-Mart a Setback
The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that a class action suit against Wal-mart on behalf of almost 80,000 current and former employees who claim the retailer forced them to work off-the-clock and denied them state-mandated breaks may proceed, denying Wal-mart's request that the claims be pursued individually. A similar suit in Pennsylvania resulted in the retailer being ordered to pay $78 million to the plaintiffs.
