New Jersey Transit approves 9 percent fare increase amid deficit
President Obama signed an Executive Order to create a federal board to mediate the disputes between New Jersey Transit Rail and their 9,500 unionized employees with expired contracts. While one union has voted to go on strike as early as July 16th, the unions are most likely not going to strike but instead hope to reach an agreement over the next few months. This labor dispute comes right as New Jersey Transit voted to raise fares 9% to help their $120 million deficit.
