New Jersey Transit Riders Seek Options Amid Strike Threat
At 12:01am Sunday night, if a contract agreement isn't reached, 4,000 unionized New Jersey transit workers could go on strike, leaving over 100,000 transit riders needing to find alternate transportation options. NJ transit employees have been working without a contract for over 5 years, and are currently seeking a pay raise, retroactive pay, and a cap on health insurance costs. If the strike happens, the ripple effect on highway traffic could be disastrous.
