New law passed in California to protect fast-food workers
On Labor Day, a novel law was signed by the California governor creating a Fast-Food Council that will set minimum standards for wages, hours, and conditions for fast-food workers. This new legislation will give fast-food workers representation to advocate for better protections. Responses to the law have been split along party lines, with Republicans opposing it and Democrats hoping it will inspire similar strides in labor policy elsewhere. Restaurant owners have also expressed opposition to the new law as they believe it will drive up consumer prices.
