Senator Sheldon Whitehouse introduced two bills to Congress that would include student loan cancellation for frontline health care workers and teachers. The legislative proposal would cancel private and federal student loans for health care workers who worked the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. It would also increase the current $17,500 student loan relief for teachers to $30,000. Senator Whitehouse said, “This legislation honors the contributions of these public servant by helping them wipe the slate clean of student loan debt.”
