New Occupational Hazards: Health Threats Plague Traditionally Safe and Not-So-Safe Jobs Alike
The emergence of new kinds of health risks -- from terrorism to SARS -- is redefining occupational hazards. The new challenges to postal workers from anthrax and to airline attendants from terrorism are two good examples of how the definitions of on-the-job hazards are changing. In today's economy, it is unlikely workers will be compensated for the increased risk - which may result in many who will just quit rather than take those risks.
