New York City forced to cut funding for city agencies due to the rising costs of the migrant crisis
The significant rise in asylum seekers settling in New York City has cost the city millions of dollars. NYC mayor Eric Adams stated that these costs will have detrimental effects on New York City’s budget, and every city agency will have to experience a 5% cut in funding in the coming months. Mayor Adams is blaming the federal government as well as the New York state government for not providing adequate support to handle the migrant crisis. If New York City doesn’t receive federal or state support, more cuts to funding are likely to occur, and agency budgets will continue to decrease throughout the year. The mayor has pledged that the budget cuts will not result in any layoffs, which means that various services will be reduced or will disappear completely.
