New York City to Demand Paid Sick Days for Most Workers
A compromise on a bill in New York City would require employers with 20 or more employees to offer paid sick leave. According to the City Council, the law will take effect in 2014 and after one year will be extended to businesses with 15 or more employees. All employers will be required to provide unpaid sick leave. Some supporters of the measure say that it does not cover enough workers, while opponents say that it will hurt businesses economically. About 1 million New Yorkers will be covered by the provision by 2015.
