Newsroom layoffs begin at Chicago Sun-Times
The first step in a proposed layoff of 35 newsroom employees at the Chicago Sun-Times was taken Thursday as part of Sun-Times Media Group's attempt to cut $50 million in operating costs out of its budget. Four non-union members of the paper's editorial board were released from their jobs Thursday, with more cuts to come over the next few days. Although intitial cuts will be limited to non-union employees, some union members are expected to be released as well, with preference given to seniority.
