NH House passes vote on union legislation
The New Hampshire House voted to approve a bill that would stop unions from negotiating 'fair share' agreements with employers. Fair share agreements require workers who are not part of a union, but are covered by its collective bargaining agreement to pay for collective bargaining costs. Proponents of the bill said that it would create jobs and encourage businesses to move to New Hampshire, which has a 5.2% unemployment rate. Opponents say that the bill is an attack on unions and will only harm workers. The Senate has already passed the measure, but the Governor has said that she will veto the bill. The Governor's office said that she believed the government should let workers and businesses negotiate on their own. It is not clear whether the House has enough votes to override a veto.
