NH Senate says no to union costs for non-members
The New Hampshire Senate has passed a bill that will stop non-union members from paying a share of collective bargaining costs if they are covered by the contract. The bill now moves back to the House, which has already passed a similar bill that included a provision that would have ended public sector union's requirement to bargain on behalf of nonunion members. The Governor says that he will veto the bill, saying that it is harmful to collective bargaining. Unions have denounced the bill, saying that it will lead to lower wages and fewer jobs, and pointing to similar laws in other states as examples of the effect the bill will have. Supporters of the bill say that it is about personal freedom and choice.
