Nigerian Unions Continue Strike Friday
After a night of talks stretching nearly until dawn, Nigerian government officials and union leaders were still unable to reach an agreement over a recent hike in gas prices, sending a nationwide strike into its third day. Strikers have used blockades to shut down city streets and cordone off gas stations in protest of a 15 percent increase in the price of gasoline, effectively crippling the economy. Nigerian officials remain resolute, however, and vowed to bring the strike to a peaceful and lawful conclusion.
