Nigerian unions suspend protests for weekend
Nigeria's unions say that they will suspend protests over the ending of fuel subsidies for the weekend while they engage in talk with the government. After five days of protests, which have costs an estimated $3 billion, much of the country's economy has been shut down. The main oil union says that it will start shutting down oil production, the country's largest industry, if the subsidies are not reinstated. The government has said that ending the subsidy was necessary fr the economy.
