NLRB alleges 'unlawful conduct' by Nevada mining company
The NLRB is accusing Nevada Gold mines of "unlawful conduct" with regards to recognizing a union representing employees for over 50 years. The mining company, Nevada's largest, is a collaboration between two international firms, Newmont and Barrick. According to the NLRB's brief, Nevada Gold mines is refusing to recognize Newmont and Operating Engineers Local 3, despite assurances that the union's existing contract would not be affected by the joint venture. The NLRB is requesting an injunction that would force the company to recognize the union and its labor agreement while an ongoing administrative process runs its course. Nevada Gold Mines has responded the injunction only paints a
partial picture of the issues at play, and would hurt the communities in which it operates. Oral arguments for the case will be held next Tuesday.
