NLRB Picks Inch Closer to Confirmation With Senate Panel Hearing
Two nominees to fill vacant seats on the National Labor Relations Board will appear before the Senate HELP Committee on October 1, moving the agency closer to regaining its full operating capacity. Scott Mayer and James Murphy, both with backgrounds in labor law, would restore a quorum if confirmed. While the board could then resume issuing decisions, some question whether it will overturn Biden-era rulings with only a two-member Republican majority. Longstanding norms discourage major changes without at least three concurring votes, though recent actions by the Trump administration may challenge that precedent.
