North Carolina Law Expands Workplace Violence Prevention Act to Address Mass Picketing
A new law signed by Governor Josh Stein expands the state’s Workplace Violence Prevention Act to include certain types of mass picketing. Employers can now request civil no-contact orders not only to protect individual workers, but also on behalf of their businesses if protests block entrances, obstruct public roads, or hinder normal operations. Lawmakers stressed that peaceful demonstrations and labor activities remain protected under federal and state law, but disruptive or unsafe actions may now trigger legal restrictions. The law passed with bipartisan support and is already in effect.
