Northwest Faces Strike Deadline
A strike threat looms over Northwest Airlines today as the airline's mechanics prepare to walk off the job if no agreement can be reached by the end of the night. Such a prospect could lead the company to file for bankruptcy, leaving all four of the major U.S. air carriers in or close to the red. Northwest vows to keep flying its full schedule even if there is a strike. President Bush could intervene in the strike if he chooses, but he has no plans to do so.
