Northwest Pilots, Fearing Worst, Will Discuss New Round of Cuts
The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents pilots at Northwest, has unanimously voted to open talks with the carrier on a second round of wage and benefit cuts, saying a refusal would guarantee a bankruptcy filing by the airline. Leaders of the pilots' union have told members that they expected the airline to ask for $322 million more in cuts, including a second pay reduction. Northwest is also in talks with flight attendents and other workers over wage cuts to avoid bankruptcy.
