Norway intervenes to avert oil industry closure
On Monday, the Norwegian government ordered a settlement between striking oil workers and the oil companies. The strike had affected about 13% of Norway's oil output, and may have escalated. Workers were striking over pensions, and the oil industry said that they would lock workers out on Monday night, causing a shutdown. The government said that they did not want to intervene in the dispute, but needed to for economic reasons. The oil companies and workers will now proceed to compulsory arbitration.
