The nurses are walking out to protest against poor working conditions that are negatively affecting patient care. The nurses are stating that the hospital system has faced constant staffing shortages due to Ascensions’ focus on cutting costs. Last year nurses at Ascension Seton Medical Center decided to unionize to address their concerns, but negotiations over the past year have not been successful. The nurses are hoping that following the Tuesday strike, Ascension will be willing to negotiate a new contract that will have greater worker protections.
