Nurses vote in support of strike ballot over low pay
Approximately four out of five members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) voted to strike over low wages yesterday. Over 50,000 of 270,000 RCN members participated in the vote. The nurses are dissatisfied with below-inflation pay raises, and plan to stage protests throughout the summer. RCN argues that the 14 percent pay cuts are a result of thousands of empty positions. A second ballot is required before industrial action can proceed.
