NY nanny law improved life for some; compliance still challenge as California ponders bill
After New York State passed a bill of rights for domestic workers, nannies and other domestic workers have been guaranteed overtime, as well as time off. California's governor could sign a similar bill in the next week, and other states are attempting to pass similar legislation. New York's Labor Department says that they have investigated some cases, but that they have more work to do in informing people of the law and its provisions. California says that they will take such problems into account if their law, which also includes provisions for sleeping arrangements and time, but not for paid vacation. The California Labor Department says that they will work on any issues that arise from the bill.
