NYC avoids strike of 30,000+ building workers with a deal reached for a new contract
The contract for over 30,000 doormen, superintendents, and other building employees in NYC was set to expire at 11:59pm today. The 32BJ SEIU union, representing these workers, had authorized a strike if a deal was not reached prior to the current contract’s expiration. On Tuesday, a deal was reached. The new contract has no changes to employee vacation days, sick leave, or health care plans while also including a 3% wage increase over the next four years. The union president said, “We got a deal done that our members have earned and deserved.”
