NYC’s looming school bus strike likely to hurt employees, families who ‘can’t afford’ to miss work
Public school bus drivers in New York City are preparing to strike next week, potentially impacting 10,000 special and general education children. On Wednesday, the Teamsters Local 553 union voted to authorize a strike in protest new contract provisions that would force drivers to pay for healthcare and take cuts to their paid holidays. The 900 drivers cover 600 bus routes across Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
