Obama Confronts Labor, lawmakers on Plan to Tax Health Benefits
The President is facing resistance from labor and Democrats over his support of taxing health benefits. The heads of the AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union will meet with Obama today to argue against the tax. Democrats in the House of Representatives are also opposed to the tax, with 190 members against the tax. The tax was proposed by the Senate to help pay for the legislation. Union leaders say that the tax will affect people who cannot afford it and will get worse over time. The support of union members will be a key factor in election races in November.
