Obama Rejects Republican Bid to Overturn New Union Rules
An effort by Congressional Republicans to overturn newly established labor regulations was thwarted Tuesday by President Obama. New rules enacted by the NLRB would streamline the unionization process at most companies, allowing workers to vote to form a union in as little as 11 days. Republicans have denounced the rules as an invasion of privacy, as employers would be required to give unions contact info for workers whether they join the union or not, and passed a Congressional Review Act disapproving the regulations. Based on votes in both houses, it appears that Republicans do not have the two thirds majority necessary to override President Obama's memorandum of disapproval.
