Obama urges Greece to focus on jobs, growth
In a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, President Obama urged Greece to look beyond austerity measures and begin focusing on jobs and growth. The President maintained that it is important for Greece to look beyond fiscal consolidation going into the future. In order to reach budget targets stipulated by the bailout program, the next round of austerity measures for Greece will include layoffs of public sector employees, the sale of public property and an overhaul of the tax system. Government data showed that Greek unemployment stood at 27.6 percent in May.
