?Obamacare? mandate delay will cost $12 billion, affect 1 million workers
A report by researchers at the Congressional Budget Office found that the one-year delay of healthcare reform?s employer mandate will cost $12 billion and leave one million fewer workers without employer-sponsored health insurance in 2014. The report said that the costs will emanate from a $10 billion reduction in penalty payments made by employers who fail to comply with the mandate. Another $3 billion in costs will come from exchange subsidies needed for workers who would otherwise have gained coverage through their employer. House Republicans have renewed efforts to implement legislation that would delay both the employer and individual mandates of the bill since the release of the report.
