Obamacare will push 2 million workers out of labor market: CBO
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its estimates of Obamacare on the labor market, and it amounts to about 2.5 million people dropping out of the official labor market by 2024. These may be people who decide to stay at home with their children, entrepreneurs, layoffs, and those working fewer hours or off-the-books. The Office estimates that over the same time period, the total number of hours worked will drop by about 2%. Overall, the message promoted by the Obama administration is that the changes in the labor force will amount to even more flexibility and mobility. Some Republicans seized the moment to broadcast an opposing view: that 2.5 million people fewer in the labor market will slow the recovery and future growth.
