Oklahoma Reaches Agreement Over Law Targeting Hiring of Undocumented Workers
A settlement between the state of Oklahoma and the US Chamber of Commerce will clarify the effects of the state's immigration law. The law targeted employers who hire undocumented immigrants. The settlement blocks part of the law from going into effect. The state will be able to require use of an electronic verification system, but will not be allowed to withhold taxes or enforce some sanctions against employers. The law was passed in 2007, and the Chamber of Commerce argued that the state was making employers enforce immigration laws.
