OSHA cites UP for retaliating against workers
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said that railroad company Union Pacific should pay $612,215 for retaliating against employees who raised safety concerns. The railroad fired two of the workers and suspended another. OSHA said that two other instances of retaliations were found at Union Pacific in 2010 and 2011, and ordered the company to train employees on the rights of whistle blowers. Union Pacific says that it will appeal the finding, saying that OSHA ignored parts of employment contracts.
