Outdoor employees in Florida are fighting for heat standards to protect worker safety
Outdoor workers in South Florida are fighting for the creation and application of a municipal heat standard as they battle extremely high temperatures this summer. The heat standard would set requirements for breaks, shade, and water while working outside. Doctors have stated that these measures are important to prevent workers from heat illnesses. Florida heat waves have killed one farmworker this year, and numerous others have been affected by the heat. The state has experienced over a month of consecutive days where the temperature feels over 100 degrees.
