Overseas workers for state contracts
Companies receiving computer programming and software engineering contracts from New York State are using foreign workers to complete the projects. Many of the workers are Indian and are brought to the state through work visas. State officials say that there is nothing wrong with using foreign workers for technology contracts, but some criticize the state's use of programs meant to help high-tech companies. IBM has $300 million in state contracts and has brought in hundreds of workers to complete their projects. Some companies say that using foreign workers is the only way to get people with the necessary skills. The state says that they are following all regulations for state contracts.
