PA businessman admits bribing NJ Labor inspector
The United States Attorney's office announced yesterday that Pennsylvania businessman Channavel (Danny) Kong has admitted to bribing a New Jersey labor official. Kong was the owner of Pennsylvania-based Sunrise Labor, which provided temporary workers to businesses while handling the withholding and taxation procedures for temporary workers. Kong has pleaded guilty to bribery and failure to pay employment taxes, admitting that, over the last three years he has paid almost $60,000 in bribes to a New Jersey labor inspector in order to protect the company from state labor audits. The New Jersey Labor Department official, senior investigator Joseph Rivera, admitted and plead guilty to the charges of accepting bribery almost an entire year ago. Kong's trial and sentencing will be held at the end of May, until then, he remains free on bail.
