Pa. Turnpike Workers Go on Strike
Teamsters locals 77 and 250, representing toll collectors on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, announced they were calling a strike for the Thanksgiving holiday. In anticipation of the announcement, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission had already decided to waive tolls on Wednesday and have nonunion employees' staff tollbooths Thanksgiving Day. Union officials expressed regret that the strike may inconvenience the public, but said management left them no alternatives. The Commission said their settlement offer was generous and expressed anger at union leaders for not sending it to the membership for a vote.
