Panel OKs N.J. pension reforms as unions howl
Union members in New Jersey are howling in protest after a State Senate committee endorsed a six-point proposal meant to rescue the state's pension system. Labor leaders say the effort is merely a cosmetic makeover which will actually slash benefits for future workers and ultimately undermines the terms of the contract public employees agreed to in 2006. Government officials counter the proposal is the only way to save the state's pension system while still saving taxpayers money.
