Patrick signs law to protect temporary workers
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed a law that would require temporary staffing agencies in the state to provide workers with information about the jobs, including pay rates and job descriptions. The law also stops agencies from charging workers fees that drive pay below minimum wage. The governor says that the bill will help insure that temporary workers are treated fairly. Supporters of the bill says that it will help cut down on abuses of workers by staffing agencies and businesses, while opponents say that enforcement of current laws is more important than new regulations. The law will go into effect in January.
