Performers at Casa Bonita, a live entertainment Mexican restaurant in Denver, successfully unionize
Theatrical workers and performers at Casa Bonita, a Mexican restaurant in Denver, Colorado that has various entertainment options such as puppet shows, music from mariachi bands, and diving performances, voted in favor of unionization last week. Workers will be represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the Actors’ Equity Association.. Employees sought unionization after management did not address various issues that workers brought up. Workers are also hoping that unionizing will lead to improved safety standards, higher wages, and better communication with management. The restaurant currently employs a lifeguard-certified worker to watch for potential safety issues that the divers may face, but there is no emergency action plan if a sudden accident occurs. Performers also want more proactive safety measures in place, with many workers stating that they’ve been assaulted while on the job.
