Philadelphia transit running after 6-day labor strike ends
The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (Septa) announced late Sunday night that an agreement had been reached and the strike was over, having lasted just shy of a week, and sent Philadelphia commuters into chaos. The tentative agreement covers five-years and represents 5,100 public transit workers. The final battle came over health care - Septa wanted to leave the agreement open, so that any changes in nation health care reform could be passed onto the agreement, but the union objected until the clause was removed from the contract language. A ratification vote is expected next week.
