Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, at UCLA strike for higher wages and back pay
Hundreds of skilled-trade workers went on a 24-hour strike yesterday at UCLA. Although there were no disruptions of service during the walkout, UCLA retaliated with an unfair labor practice charge, stating that the strike was unlawful. Christian Castro, spokesman for Teamsters Local 2010, the union that organized the strike, claims that UCLA has not engaged in good faith bargaining in the past. The union is therefore asking for 20.39% in back pay for the four years during which employees have worked without renewed contracts, in addition to annual wage increases.
