Poland works to stem labour drain
In less than five years' time, Warsaw's falling-down, unused sports stadium is to be the site of the opening ceremony for the Euro 2012 soccer championships. Poland is co-hosting the tournament with Ukraine. The traders are to be moved, the weeds are to be dug up and world class turf to be laid. It is a serious construction challenge. There is one overwhelming obstacle - the lack of people to do the building. It is estimated that more than one million young Poles have left the country in search of better wages since the country joined the EU in 2004. This exodus has left the country with a serious manpower problem ahead of one of the world's most famous sporting events.
