Poland's PGNiG rejects unions' 11 pct pay demand
Polish gas group PGNiG dismissed union demands for an 11% pay increase in 2009. The company announced the rejection today, citing current economic conditions in Poland as well the financial state of PGNiG itself. The monopoly is facing high natural gas import prices and price regulation that prevents the firm from raises costs sufficiently to account for those import prices. Unions are preparing for a possible strike as a result.
