Police Sobriety Test Proposal Could Lead to a Showdown With Unions
A new proposal by the New York City Police Commissioner could set off a conflict with the city's unions over whether police involved in shootings should be given sobriety tests at the scene. The proposal was one of 19 recommendations by a panel set up by the commissioner in the wake of the shooting death of Sean Bell last November. Police unions say the measure could serve to cast doubt on the legitimacy of shootings where none was justified.
