Portland teacher?s strike: Parents express relief as school district and union reach ?conceptual agreement?
On the verge of the first ever strike in the Portland School District, a ?tentative agreement? brought welcome news to students, parents, school administrators, and teachers. Most of the details have not been released to the public. The most recent negotiation session, which lasted 23-hours straight, concludes over 10 months of bargaining. At the end of the day, the potential strike caused community-wide disruption, but the agreement is supported by all members involved who have made a statement. The agreement still needs school board approval before it can be passed onto the union members for a final vote, but in the meantime the strike will be postponed, pending the approval or rejection of the agreement.
