Portland Uber and Lyft Drivers Plan Rally At City Hall To Demand Better Working Conditions
Portland Uber and Lyft drivers will rally outside of City Hall today to speak up about low pay, secretive corporate culture, and gaps in insurance coverage in ride-hailing companies operating in the city. The AFL-CIO is supporting the drivers’ effort, called the Transportation Fairness campaign, which is urging city officials to delegate a board to protect workers at these companies. The union slowed Uber and Lyft’s entry into the municipality for over a year, although the ride-hailing giants finally gained entry into the city in 2014.
